We are excited to announce that the New England Americana Festival will be returning to Harvard Sq., in Cambridge, Massachusetts for its second year in a row! We will have more information regarding festival line-up, participating venues, and schedule in the coming weeks, but for now, mark September 27-29 in your calendars! Stay tuned for more!

Now, heading into year four, we are working to expand even more and we’re rather giddy about it. We are adding two more stages to the festival (one indoors and one outdoors) making a total of 6, which means that we can include more artists in on the conversation that we started four years ago. We will even be releasing the New England Americana Project Vol. 2, an amazing community experience where loads of local artists come into the studio to collaborate on recording traditional American songs that the artists feel are “in danger of being forgotten.” It is a very special and humbling experience to come together as a community and pay homage to those who came before us. Also, we’re in the process of planning more community events like info sessions, skill shares, retreats, socials, and more shows!

Here’s the rub. We need a little help from you, our friends. (“We get by with a little help…” yeah, you get it). Every dollar raised helps ideas that were once scribbled on the back of bar napkins enter our community. This is where you come in. In exchange for your generous pledges we have arranged a bunch of exclusives ranging from T-shirts, to CDs, to House Parties! You can even play a roll in the creation of our next album!

You’ll also be brought along for the ride! We’re going to take you into our meetings where we plan the festival, into the recording studio as we work on the New England Americana Project, and even into the lives of many community members through exclusive interviews and performances.

Director Martin Scorcese captures the legendary final concert by The Band, staged at San Francisco’s Winterland arena on Thanksgiving Day 1976. Along with revealing interviews, the concert footage features Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Festival Express:

Follow the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, the Band, Buddy Guy and others as they live (and party) together for five days in the summer of 1970 aboard a chartered train crossing the length and breadth of Canada. This moving music documentary follows the train’s passengers — some of the world’s greatest rock bands — on a historical journey, stopping in major cities along the way for a series of energetic live performances.

Many acclaimed musicians and bands will be featured on the Regent stage starting at 2pm including W.C. Handy award-winning guitar virtuoso, Ronnie Earl in a rare solo acoustic performance, Comanchero, Sam Reid & The Riot Act, Jeff Byrd, and Arlington-based duo Adela & Jude.

In addition, on the big screen at 7:30pm, there will be a special 35mm screening of Murray Lerner’s “Festival”—a 1967 GRAMMY Award-Nominee for Best Feature Documentary (with historical performances for the 1963-65 Newport Folk Festivals). “Festival” will be preceded at 7pm by an exclusive 30-minute sneak preview of documentarian Beth Harrington’s “The Winding Stream,” with excerpts from her film-in-progress telling the remarkable story of the American roots music dynasty, the Carters and the Cashes.

Beer and wine will be available for purchase to patrons 21 and older with proper I.D. throughout the event, and food will be catered by the award-winning Blue Ribbon BBQ between the concert and film segments of the festival.
